Grace Fellowship: “God’s Word. Prayer. Fellowship. Faith”

History Of Grace Fellowship

Grace Fellowship was begun in the Summer of 2009. Our humble beginning started with the first service being held in Salem Park. We were a church without a building. Over 160 people attended the first service. And all throughout that first summer we met in various city parks each Sunday evening. From the beginning there were many volunteers who organized and hauled chairs and sound equipment and other things necessary for holding services.

The sense of excitement and God’s leading was evident from the beginning. The Lord blessed this group with a strong sense of unity and love.

The Elder board made up of Chairman Scott Finkbeiner, Mike Bayne, Brian Dean and Pastor Steve were appointed. Pastor Steve Miller, Pastor JC Donner, Waylon Grout and Youth Pastor Shaun Breiland were the original staff members. Since then Nate Bayne has become our current interim Youth Pastor.

After much prayer and deliberation it was unanimously voted on by the church to join the Berean Fellowship of Churches in May of 2010.

Four foundational pillars were identified as to what God was raising up in our midst. These four are: God’s Word, Prayer, Fellowship and Faith. They are the essence of what this church is about.

Before long we leased the Convention Center at the Holiday Inn and began to meet indoors! At the same time we were leasing space for offices, renting space for youth group and another space for The River young adult ministry.

In January of 2011 Grace Fellowship moved to its current location at 524 W. Jackson Blvd. We were delighted to have all aspects of the ministry under one roof.

The hand of God was evident in many ways upon the beginning of Grace Fellowship. Please join us in praying that God would continue to keep his hand upon us as we commit to being a church devoted to God’s Word, Prayer, Fellowship and Faith!

Grace Fellowship Pastors

I was born and raised in Iowa in a Christian family.  After accepting Christ as Savior as a young child, I then felt the definite call of God to full-time ministry when I was a junior in High School.  I attended Bible College in Rochester, MN and then Seminary in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where I earned Master of Divinity and Master of Arts in Counseling degrees.  I have pastored several churches in South Dakota, moving to Spearfish in 2002.  I pioneered Grace Fellowship in the Summer of 2009.  Witnessing the incredible blessing of God upon Grace Fellowship has been one of my greatest joys.  I love the Lord and love His church, and have a burning passion to preach the Word of God in a way that is engaging and understandable.  I have been married to my college sweetheart, Shelly, since 1987.  Together we have three sons: Joshua, Caleb and Joseph.

Hi! My name is JC and I am the Associate Pastor at Grace Fellowship. My wife, two kids and I have lived in Spearfish for about 9 years. The majority of my time is spent with college and young adults, providing outreach opportunities for the church, teaching, counseling, and various other duties. I enjoy hiking, 4-wheeling, biking (the motorized kind), watching movies and cheering the Vikings on as they lose!

Well, I am about as local as they come. I was born and raised in Spearfish and I graduated from high school here in 2010. I am currently pursuing a degree in English Education at Black Hills State University. My start in youth ministry came my senior year of high school when I volunteered to help then-Youth Pastor Shaun Breiland. I have continued to help and teach ever since then and am extremely excited to serve God as Interim Youth Pastor for Grace Fellowship.
